The method
How does the Icon method work?
In our practice we rely on modern, tooth-friendly procedures. With the innovative Icon method we can treat early-stage caries as well as unsightly spots on the teeth, usually without anaesthesia and without drilling, while largely preserving healthy tooth substance.
Early caries or enamel defects leave microscopic pores in the enamel. Acids penetrate through these pores and damage the tooth further. In Icon therapy, this porous area is filled with a special, low-viscosity resin (the infiltrant) after gentle preparation. The material penetrates deep into the enamel, seals the pores and can thus halt the progression of early caries.

When is Icon used?

Early caries (initial caries)
Caries often develops in the hard-to-reach spaces between the teeth. If the caries is still limited to the enamel and no “hole” has formed yet, Icon can help preserve healthy tooth substance without the need for drilling.

“White spots” after fixed braces
After brackets are removed, unsightly, chalky white spots often remain on the teeth. Icon re-adjusts the refractive index of the tooth so that the spots usually become much less visible and the tooth looks more natural again.

Mild form of chalky teeth (MIH)
Even with mild enamel development disorders, the method can help seal porous structures and strengthen the teeth. More about MIH
