Frequently asked questions for your dentist in Meerbusch-Büderich

Answers to the questions we hear most often, from parents, anxious patients and everyone else. Your question is missing? Feel free to call us.

Appointments and practice

The easiest way is online via our appointment calendar, which opens with a click on “Book appointment”. There you can see available appointments and receive an immediate confirmation. Of course you can also reach us by phone at 02132 72100.

Please let us know by phone as early as possible, ideally at least 24 hours in advance. Then we can give the appointment to other patients.

We advise and treat in German, Albanian, Italian, English and Spanish.

Yes. Free public parking is available right on Von-Bodelschwingh-Straße and in the side streets. The practice does not have its own car park.

Yes. On request you can pay your share of the costs via our billing partner in six monthly instalments, interest-free. It is best to talk to us before the treatment begins, then we can discuss the details with you at leisure.

Parents and children

The first official dental visit (the Z1 early-detection examination) should take place between the 6th and 9th month of life – at the latest around the first birthday, or as soon as the first milk tooth is visible.

Important: please bring the yellow examination booklet (“Gelbes Heft”).

Mention the appointment casually and positively. Avoid phrases like “don't be scared” or “it won't hurt”, they only create worries. We take care of everything else together on site.

Milk teeth are very important. They keep the space for the permanent teeth and are crucial for chewing and speaking. That is why we treat them just as carefully.

Professional bodies such as the German Society for Paediatric Dentistry (DGKiZ) recommend starting to wean your child off the dummy gently, ideally from the second year of life. By the age of three it should be over – up to that age, mild misalignments (such as a typical “open bite”) usually still correct themselves.

Our rule of thumb: only once a child can write fluently in joined-up handwriting is their fine motor control mature enough to clean their teeth thoroughly on their own.

Prevention and treatment

For most adults, two check-ups a year make sense. The appointment is short, and those who come regularly also secure the bonus from their health insurance via the bonus booklet.

Professional teeth cleaning removes deposits even where the toothbrush cannot reach, for example between the teeth. This helps prevent caries and gum inflammation. More on our prevention page.

Just tell us, you are not alone with this. A first appointment with us can be a pure conversation, without treatment. We approach everything else step by step at your pace.

That depends on the findings and on your insurance. Before any major treatment you receive a clear explanation and a treatment and cost plan from us, so that you know in advance what to expect.

Dental accident and emergency

The following count as dental emergencies:

  • Accidental injuries to the teeth, mouth and jaw (dental trauma):
    • Chipped, loosened or completely knocked-out teeth.
    • Jaw fractures as well as tears or cuts inside the mouth.
  • Severe bleeding that will not stop:
    • Heavy bleeding after surgery (for example tooth extractions) that cannot be stopped with a bite pad or a cloth handkerchief.
  • Sudden, acute and very severe pain:
    • Severe toothache that painkillers can no longer control.
  • Acute purulent infections and swelling:
    • Pronounced swelling of the face or neck (a “fat cheek” or abscess).
    • Infections accompanied by difficulty swallowing, shortness of breath, restricted mouth opening or fever.

Situations that can wait until regular consulting hours:

  • Lost fillings, inlays or crowns (as long as they are painless).
  • Mild to moderate pressure sores from dentures.
  • Cosmetic issues.
  • Orthodontic appliances that need readjusting (as long as no sharp parts are injuring the mucosa).

If you are suffering acute toothache or discomfort, we will not leave you on your own. Please call the practice directly or book your appointment conveniently online via our website.

So that we can help you as quickly as possible when you are in pain, we keep fixed buffer times free for emergencies every day. Just get in touch — we will make every effort to find a prompt solution for you.

Only touch the tooth by the crown, not by the root, and do not clean it. Ideally store it in a tooth rescue box from the pharmacy, alternatively in cold UHT milk. Get to a dental practice or dental clinic as quickly as possible: the faster, the better the chance of saving the tooth.

If possible, keep the fragment moist (tooth rescue box or cold milk) and arrange an appointment soon. In case of pain, bleeding or if a larger piece is missing, please call us immediately.
